Michael Hernandez
Board of Selectman

Michael "Julio" Hernandez is a candidate for reelection to the Board of Selectman. Mike is proud to be a lifelong resident of Portland. Professionally, he works as a Project Manager for Environmental Services Corporation, but his most important role is that of the proud father of a beautiful 7-year-old daughter Addison. Mike is a United States Navy Veteran who served in deployments in both Somalia and the Persian Gulf. He is presently the Commander of Portland's VFW Post 6121.

Mike attended Portland schools, and after graduating from Portland High School, enlisted in the US Navy. During his time in the Navy, he was deployed to Somalia during the Persian Gulf War. As a proud veteran, he knew he wanted to do more, so after completing his tour in the Navy, he returned to Portland and joined the VFW Post 6121. Mike is proud to be now serving as Commander of the Post since 2014.

Mikes commitment to the town and organizations within doesn’t stop there, he has served on various boards and commissions for over 14 years, including the Route 17 park exploratory committee and the Portland Little League where he has served as Coach, Treasurer and Vice President of the Board of Directors.

In Mikes own words, "Throughout this time, I have gained firsthand knowledge about the specific issues that affect our wonderful town. As the current Finance Chair for the Republican Town Committee, I believe that I have the ideas and knowledge to help propel our community to growth and development in a fiscally responsible manner leading Portland to being a place of stable employment and opportunities for advancement, a place where our youth choose to come back to so that they raise their own families with the ideals and standards that make Portland the epitome of “small town USA”. "

His desire to improve our town is the reason why he has decided to officially run for this position-so that he can help Portland to become a town where people not only want to come and visit but make it their home. His passion for Portland is evident in all that he does. Please join us in support of Mike with your vote on November 5th!
